Crisis Services Grant

The Panel invites applications from organizations and agencies currently providing behavioral health services in San Miguel County. We are interested in programs, projects, or initiatives that improve the crisis response services available to county residents, including direct services, transportation, crisis evaluation services, access to crisis services, community education regarding mental health crises and access to services, and other services related to the crisis response system in the county. In addition, we are interested in funding requests that expand existing services but will also consider new or innovative programs related to providing crisis services. We will consider requests for staffing needs and training of existing staff around crisis intervention and general mental health and wellness.

The San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office

The County Sheriff’s Office was awarded $59,016 in grant funds. The office is seeking to add coverage for crisis responder services to get to seven-day-a-week coverage. There is a need to get 24/7 coverage support for our local law enforcement officers and our community members. The San Miguel County Crisis Response Program (SMC CORE) is a countywide peace officer and mental health co-response program which teams local peace officers in San Miguel County with behavioral health clinicians to effectively respond to behavioral and mental health related individuals in crisis. This collaboration works to prevent unnecessary incarceration and hospitalization of mentally ill individuals and facilitates access to mental health treatment and behavioral health resources to all members of the community. The Sheriff’s Office gained the support of the Telluride Marshal’s Office and the Mountain Village Police Department to apply on their behalf.
